Questions 6

In war, soldiers are often morally compromised to the point that they can't tell the difference between right and wrong anymore. Give specific examples of "right" (moral) and "wrong" (amoral) behavior that you can see evidence of in the stories you have read.

An example of moral behavior would be that after each soldier was killed they would make sure they got their bodies home to their families. Gor example when Kiowa was killed they searched for his body in the field of mud and feces. an example of immoral behavior would be when mark fossie brout his girlfriend Mary Anne to Vietnam and she ended up abandoning them and becoming weird

They have been there for so long that they can't not understand the difference in right and wrong. You have to be killing&shooting at people. You almost loose your self out there. They also think if they do something wrong then there friend gets killed it's there fault it doesn't make it there they just don't understand that. Like when Kiowa wAs killed he thinks it was his fault because he was showing him his girlffriend the night before but with the flashlight in the dark but you can't really be sure.

I agree that the soldiers sending the bodies home is morally right. Especially when they searched for Kiowa for such a long time just to make sure hisnbody got home. There were also some very morally wrong events in the book too. An example of this is when Azar is making jokes about some of the men dying in battle.

I agree with Catherine that it is a moral thing to find the bodies and write letters to the families of the deceased people. Especially when they were looking for Kiowa because he was wan important part of their group, I think. I think that it was immoral to set up camp in a church just because it is supposed to be a holy place.

  5. Soldiers have been in the battlefield for a long time and that could cause hallucinations and soldiers not knowing between right and wrong. One example of a wrong doing is that if a soldier kills someone innocent and also treating people of the country badly because of their race or skin color. The examples of doing something write is actually doing the job you got assigned joining the army. Killing a soldier of the opposite team is right doing because your doing your job and defending your country. After being in war for a very long time can mess with your head so that is why i think It messes with your common sense.

Many people in war get count up in their surroundings. It's almost like they loose consciousness and are only focusing on what their job is. When LT Cross sends Kiowa to the river while it's raining that probably wasn't morally right. If Cross was in the right mind state then his decision would have been different. Cross makes a moral choice when he writes the letter in his head to kiowas father, because this is him caring about Kiowa as more than a soldier.

  7. Right behavior would be stuff like Helping out your team, and standing strong and doing your job right. Wrong behavior would be stuff like suicide, killing your own team or escaping the war. I agree with soldiers sending bodies back home is right and leaving dead bodies from the other team on the ground is wrong. Dan Barrera secondary post.

I absolutely think that it is morally right to send
The bodies home. Can you imagine what it would be like if the was your father or brother, any family member and you had live not knowing where there body actually ended up. Some people might say that being at war you loose your morals but that's not true there are plenty of people who can have a war personality and a at home personality. In Think there are plenty of moral soldiers. But the book showed some very immoral things as well.

I agree completely that seeding the bodies home is morally right. People are risking their life for their country and the least someone can do is send their body home for a proper memorial. And I also agree that searching for Kiowa's body was the right thing to do because he did risk his life for his country.

  10. I agree i think people begin to think what would they want people to Do if the same think happened to you. I also think people begin to think immorally because their brain is in defense mode. I think their brain starts to think immorally trying to defend itself on all situations

I agree with Jade, some soldiers are over there for so long that they forget what is morally right or wrong, they lose the understanding that killing someone is wrong when theyre over there everyday kill and shooting at people.

  12. Seconday Post- I agree with Catherine, that sending bodies of fallen soldiers great morally. Also when Mark Fossie brought his girlfriend to Vietnam I would consider it morally corrupt. Fossie knew the war and, even though he needed some company, he shouldn't have brought his girlfriend to Vietnam.

  13. I agree with mike L he tells it just the way it. That the soldiers should send the bodies home and try to find the downed soldiers. Like Kiowa and any other soldier to send home

I agree with jade. I agree that the soldiers have been there for so long that many have lost sight of what is right and wrong. I also agree that the soldiers should not think that everything is their fault even though in most cases they do.

I agree with Bilal. After time goes by your mind is changed from war. You have to react and not react to certain situations at different times. I also think killing someone is war is what you're there to do. Well, you are there to protect your country and if that means killing then that's what you got to do.

  16. Secondry: I agree with jade because I think the soldiers do lose thought of what is right and what is wrong because of killing and shooting at people. But Also, I agree with catherine becasues they do show moral behavior when they write letters to the families when someone dies.

I agree with mikaela because she talks about Jimmy cross's moral wrongness when he sent Kiowa to the river. I also agree with her talking about how he wrote a letter to his father was the right thing to do. Overall the moral aspect of soliders can be wrong and right like everyone else in the world.

I agree with Catherine. Sending the bodies back to their families is a good moral behavior. They can give the body a normal burial rather than letting the bodies rot in Vietnam. Also leaving people who care about you is a bad moral behavior because not caring about people around you is being selfish.
