Mary Anne Bell is a typical American seventeen year old. She is in love with her boyfriend, comes for a visit, and ends up staying forever. What happens to Mary Anne Bell in "Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong?" What causes the transformation in her? What does this say about the Vietnam experience? Why would a girl like her want to be there?

Even though she wanted to go and see her boyfriend because she loves him she shouldnt have gone somewhere were a war is going on.I don't know what happened to her to make her change like this but it must have been her seeing all the crazy thing that happen during war

Mary Ann bell came to Vietnam because her boyfriend wanted her to, but she became so overwhelmed with everything and she changed. The change came from her desire for knowledge and understanding, also from her thirst for adventure. She wants to be there because there is so much around hear that she doesn't understand. Her transformation shows that Vietnam was intense and alluring.

ReplyDeleteIn the Sweet of the song trabong, Mary Anne Bell goes to Vietnam to visit her boyfriend. Mary Anne Bell starts to change, she starts acting differently and wears different clothes. The causes of her changes are the witnesses of what war can do to people. She saw injured men and how wounded they were from the war. The vietnam experience changes people mentally and physically. Her changes also show how life-changing Vietnam is. Mary Anne Bell likes Vietnam and the thrill of Vietnam.

ReplyDeleteMarry Anne Bell went to visit her boyfriend Mark Fossie in the Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong. It didn't take long for her to be affected by the horrible sites of Vietnam. She enjoyed being there but soon after she arrived mark wanted her to go back home. She ended up joining the "greenies" and turned into someone completely different that the seventeen-year-old girl who had gone to visit her boyfriend.

ReplyDeleteI do not think that Mary Anne bell is a typical seventeen year old girl because i think that most girl her age would never go into the battle field for love. She is madly in love, decides to take a visit but ends up staying there forever which i think is crazy. Her mind becomes warped when smhe goes there because she ends up going with the special forces group and they never see her again. She came there as a girly girl, but changed into a crazed green barrette.

ReplyDeleteMary Anne Bell went to Vietnam to make her boyfriend happy. I don't think she's a normal seventeen year old girl because not many girls that age go to war. When she got to Vietnam she finally realized what was going on in the war. She was overwhelmed by everything that was happening that she became a part of the war. She started spending time with the Green Berets and going out with them. Her boyfriend sees her starting to change and doesn't want her to be here anymore but the. She disappears.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Katrina. Mary Anne Bell was so interested in the things around her, so she wanted to learn more. She wanted to get involved because that would allow her to learn by becoming a part of what was going on, instead of just standing back and watching what the other men were doing.
Marry ann bell joins the Green Barrets when she goes to Vietnam at the end of the chapter. She started out as just being a normal American girl visiting her girlfriend but ended up joining the opposite team. She escapes the campground and after that she is never seen again. ReplyDeleteMary Anne Bell's transformation in the song tra bong was a sad story. She begins with her visit for her boyfriend, and gradually becomes an animal, a monster in the dense, dark jungles of Vietnam. Her case was caused by her learning of the Vietnamese way, and her latent lust for blood. On the contrary, I don't t think the "average American girl" would want to fall into the vices of Vietnam. This is quite unusual and I would like to believe that any other girl that wasn't Mary Anne Bell would be deterred by the habits of the soldiers and the cultures of Vietnam.

ReplyDeleteIn response to Sarah, I would agree with you with everything else, but I think her curiosity isnt what brought her to stay in Vietnam. I think it was her wanting to be close to the action, and closer to herself. She was crazy, and she got pleasure from the dangers that were lurking out there.
Seconday post- I agree with Sarah that her curiosity caused her transformation. Mary Ann was curious about Vietnam. I believed that she stayed in Vietnam, in the jungle, because she was curious and she wanted to find out more.

I agree with everything that Jill is the cuttest farrow said. She is so smart. She is right because of the horrible things going on there and it is something that you shouldn't see even but defiantly not when your 17

ReplyDeleteJill I like the detail you gave about how she feel in love with the land. I agree when you said she isn't like a normal 17 year old. I think the war can do crazy things to people as you explained in your post.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Nora. Mary Anne Bell did something many other 17 year old girls won't. She went to Vietnam during a war just to meet her boyfriend. She started out like any other normal girl would act. But after a while, she started to become more agressive.

I agree with Jade. I think it was a mistake to go to Vietnam in the first place. If she had never gone she wouldn't have seen all of the horrible sites she did and she would have never changed. She could have waited for her boyfriend to come home and they would have still been together.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Katrina. Mary Anne Bell was curious. She wanted to know more about the war and the things she learned intrigued her. The more she stayed and the more she gets involved, her appearance changed completely.

ReplyDeleteMary anne started hanging out with the green berets and eventually turns in to a monster. She eventually ends up disappearing and no one knows what happens to her. It Sasha bad idea for her boyfriend to bring her there. He should have just waited and they could have still been together. I believe that Mary anne was deeply affected by the sites she saw in Vietnam, showing how horrible the war really was. I don't believe that most girls would want to fly to Vietnam in the first place, but she was in love. And even if girls did go out of love they would do the opposite of what Mary anne did and would want to leave.
Secondary Post
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nora because no normal 17 year old girl would even consider going to war just to see her boyfriend for a couple of weeks. She is not who she was before because she has now experienced everything from the war and probably has a very different point of view.
