This week flew by!

To all of my sophomore students: Fantastic job today on the seminar! I am so impressed by all that was contributed. For the most part, everyone contributed something original and meaningful to the conversation and more than once! It was very impressive and a lot of fun to listen to. I am so interested in what you all have to say and I do not always get to hear from all of you, so it was really quite entertaining for me. I hope you all enjoyed (or did not hate) the experience as well. It is definitely a different way to end a unit, but I think it was very worthwhile and informative. I hope you did too!

Periods 3 & 7 - complete the Word Wealth Part 2, Unit 7 worksheet. Begin thinking about the questions for the seminar on Thursday.

Period 6 - fill in the "character quotes" worksheet using your character. You will need to use this later, so do a thorough job. You have a quiz on Act II on Thursday.

Is everyone else getting a cold? I can't seem to shake this one! Anyway, every class has a vocab quiz tomorow. Please study and don't forget that flashcards are five extra points! EVERYONE could use this extra credit!

Periods 2 & 5 - study and flashcards - Vocab Unit 6, 1-10
Periods 3 & 7 - study and flashcards - Vocab Part 2 Unit 6 and write a one paragraph reaction to the ending of Death of a Salesman. Your paragraph should be six to eight sentences.
Period 6  - study for vocab unit 6 and make flashcards.

Please keep in mind that when you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to make up the work and show me the missed homework. I will not chase you down for it and you will receive a zero.

Periods 3 & 7 - your performances will be on Thursday. Be sure that you have divided up responsibilities today and that you all know what your role in executing this assignment well is. Tomorrow you should bring in anything you need for working on things tomorrow in class.

Periods 2 & 5 - Please make sure you have completed the exercises on pages 61 - 63 in your Vocab book. We will continue to read Animal Farm next week.

Periods 3 & 7 - Read through page 76 of Death of a Salesman and take notes for Monday. We will begin an acting project next week. Get excited! If you have not turned in your essay, you may still turn it in. Each day it is late, I will subtract a full letter grade. If you email it to me by the end of today, I will only subtract five points.

Period 6 - work on the literary device review sheet. Keep in mind you test on Act I is on Tuesday. We will review on Monday.

Today we had a fantastic Veteran's Day Assembly! Great job to the band and chorus! You guys were amazing! Have a great day off tomorrow and remember the reason you are off!

Periods 2 & 5 - Vocab Quiz on Unit 5, words 1-10 on Friday.
Period 6 - study for vocab quiz on Friday unit 5. You should have Act I of R & J completely finished. Your test will be on TUESDAY for Act I. We will do lots of review before then. Pay close attention to quotes that I emphasized in class as well as the literary terms we discussed.
Periods 3 & 7 - Your final draft of your essay is due in class on Friday. If you cannot print at home, I will gladly take them via email in an attached word document. OTherwise they are due when you walk in the door on Friday. You also need to have read through page 76 by Monday!

All classes may bring in flashcards for an extra 5 points on Friday. Have a great day off!

Good afternoon all! Welcome to a new quarter! Grades are due today, that means you are all starting off with a clean slate. This is an opportunity to get back on track with doing homework, keeping your participation grade up, and handing in assignments on time. We have new seats and we are in a good place to start fresh! If you are a parent reading this and would like to schedule a conference, they are November 19th from 7:30am-2:30pm. Please send me an email at mstuart@burlington.mec.edu There is also a "drop by" night on the 18th from 6:30 - 8:30. Here I will not be able to spend a very long time with each of you, but would love to meet you and give you a quick update. Feel free to come on this night as well.

HOMEWORK:

Periods 3 & 7 - Tomorrow I will be checking notes on Death of a Salesman pages 52-63, checking your homework from the weekend (first practice set in Word Wealth - Part 2, Unit 5) and you should also have your rough draft with you. We will peer edit in class and then go to the writing lab to finish these. They are officially due on Friday, but I will collect them at the end of the period tomorrow if any of you are done with them.

Period 2 - finish chapter 8 and the review sheet

Period 5 - write your journal entry in character. Finish chapter 8 review sheet

Period 6 - Romeo and Juliet Act I review sheet. I will also check synonyms, antonyms, and completing the sentence of Unit 5 tomorrow.

Periods 2 & 5 - Read through chapter 9 and write that journal entry that you should be able to do in class.

I cannot believe that the first quarter is already over! One down, three to go! Monday is a fresh start, all of my classes will change their seats and we will have a clean slate to go with. Make sure you are saving everything that is passed back to you. Put it in the appropriate section as you get it, and you will not have to scramble at the end of the quarter.

Periods 2 & 5 - Read Chapter 8 of Animal Farm and take notes as this is a long chapter.

Periods 3 & 7 - Please complete the First Practice Set for Part 2, Unit 5 in Word Wealth. Extra credit is due on Monday.

Period 6 - Please do the "completing the sentence" section for unit 5 in your vocab book. We will continue to read Romeo and Juliet on Monday. You will have a test on Act I on Wednesday.

Hi all,

Not much to report, I hope you all had a wonderful day off yesterday! I cannot believe I had to scrape the frost off of my car this morning! It is November, wow! Great job to periods 3, 6, & 7 on their binder checks today. Most of you had them turned in and did a great job on them! Since a new quarter begins Monday, use it to start off well. If you had a hard time with the binder check this quarter, save everything from now on and immediately put it into the correct section. That way, you do not have to do anything when it comes to the binder check at the end of quarter 2. It is supposed to be an easy way to boost your grade.

I cannot believe it is already November. I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween. I think I am still in a candy coma! Too many Reese's! It is a short week this week, no school on Tuesday. Enjoy your day off, but you still have much to do!

Good afternoon!

Periods 2 & 5 - Great discussions today about characterization. We will continue this tomorrow and also work on some writing. Make sure you have read through Chapter 4 of Animal Farm by class tomorrow.

Periods 3 & 7 - I hope you enjoyed UP! today, it definitely gives us another example of a Death of a Salesman type setting. Tomorrow we will continue reading the play or begin for period 7!

Period 6 - I really enjoyed our discussions today about parental pressure, as well as what Romeo and Juliet may have felt like since their parents forbid them to be together. Make sure you complete the worksheet in complete sentences for class tomorrow. We will discuss this sheet and then begin to read.

Periods 2 & 5 - Please finish chapter 3 of Animal Farm tonight. We will talk about characterization and the different Animals tomorrow. If you have not finished chapters 1 or 2, you should! We will have some reading check quizzes coming up!

Periods 3 & 7 - Read the italicized portion of pages 1 & 2 of Death of a Salesman. It is only about a page and a half and we will talk about it in class tomorrow. There is much to discuss about the setting of this play. We will hopefully be able to begin reading in class tomorrow as well.

Period 6 - Sorry our discussion got cut short by my technological issues! We will continue to talk about the prologue tomorrow and hopefully begin to read finally!

Lastly, please be sure to clean up after yourselves in my classroom. I have been noticing a lot of wrappers and scrap papers on the ground. This is a classroom. Please be respectful of that. You should be able to clean up after yourselves. I should not have to do it and neither should the custodian. As long as we are all cleaning up, it should stay nice and neat in 217A!

Good morning everyone! It is a very rainy Friday! I hope it dries out for this weekend, I love being outside on fall days! You all have a Vocab test today. If you are absent, you have one week to make it up.

Periods 2&5 - Please read chapter 2 in Animal Farm this weekend. Pay attention to the established rules. What do you think happened to the milk at the end of the chapter?

Periods 3 & 7 - You have no homework, have a great weekend. On Monday, we will begin Death of a Salesman. Please remember the contracts we signed in class. Your participation grade is based on this.

Period 6 - Read the prologue for Romeo and Juliet. What do you notice about it? There is a lot to talk about on Monday.

Periods 2 & 5 - You have a Vocab quiz on Unit 3, words 1-10 tomorrow. Bring in flashcards for an extra five points on your quiz. We will also continue to work on Animal Farm tomorrow.
